In Fall 2008, I built a simulation framework for the competition among social networking services. The simulation framework is basically a multi-agent system. Key findings are as follow: (1) a platform starting with locally-concentrated user base outperforms one begining with globally-distributed user base, (2) first-mover’s advantage is observed and measured quantitatively in terms of cost and utility function, and (3) how the topology of agent community affects the result of competition was investigated. I am still working on making the framework more sophisticated during my spare time. The following files are the presentation slides and the term paper I wrote then.
